Preparations for inhibition of germination, germination inhibitors and method of inhibiting germination of potatoes

In the present invention there is disclosed the use of fatty acid methyl esters of rape oil in preparations intended for inhibition of potato germination and as germination inhibitors during potato storage. In the present invention there is also claimed a preparation for inhibition of potato germination, which preparation contains a germination inhibitor being selected from a group comprising alcohols with medium and/or long chain, essential oil and chemical germination inhibitors and which contains as a main component methyl esters of rape oil fatty acids in an amount of at least 50, preferably at least 60 and the most preferably at least 70 percent by weight based on the total weight of both inhibitors and rape oil fatty acid methyl esters. In the present invention there is further claimed method of inhibiting germination of potatoes during storage thereof, which method is characterized by treating potatoes with the aforementioned inhibitor or preparation that is sprayed upon them, particularly in the form of periodical treatment as a fog.
