The present invention provides a system for providing a user with data indicating the location of the tip (6) of a tool (2) and the orientation of the tip portion of the tool relative to an ultrasound image plane wherein the data is presented separately from the ultrasound image so that the location and orientation of the tool are easily discernable regardless of the location and orientation of the tool relative to the ultrasound image plane. The system may comprise means for presenting the data in graphical or acoustic form. The invention also extends to a method of presenting data relating to the position of the tool (2) relative to an ultrasound image plane to a user. |
