PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the fixing method of a cover body to a bulkhead for facilitating the maintenance of a tunnel excavator. SOLUTION: This tunnel excavator equipped with the bulkhead 1 for isolating the cutting chamber in which the earth and sand excavated by the cutter head is housed is made up of at least one bolt 14 fixedly provided to the circumference of the opening part provided to the bulkhead 1, nuts 15 screwed in the respective bolts 14, and a pressing member 16 intervening between the circumferential part of the cover body 2 openably provided to the opening part and the nuts 15. The cover body 2 is characteristically fixed to the bulkhead 1 via the pressing member 16 by tightening the nuts 15.
