Disclosed is the active part of an osseous preparation tool used in dental medicine for preparing an osseous seat by means of osseous compression so as to axially insert an implant (dilator). The inventive active part of said to ol comprises a straight section, the perimeter of which is defined such that a rotational movement of the dilator about its own axis, which is preceded or accompanied by a translational movement thereof in an axial direction in the seat, has the effect of compressing the osseous matter towards the periphery of the seat while giving a predefined perimeter to said seat, the rotation being in one direction or alternately in one direction and the opposite direction. According to one embodiment of the invention, only a rotation of the dilator in a given direction R1 results in compression, a rotation in th e opposite direction having a cutting effect as at least one edge of the dilat or is a cutting edge. Rotation can be angularly limited according to parameters such as the shape of the section of the dilator and the mechanical qualities of the treated osseous matter, etc. Said dilator is used by means of a manua l or automatic device which makes it possible to give the dilator the rotation causing osseous compression and/or an axial movement, for example in the for m of percussions. The rotational movement and the axial movement are performed either successively or simultaneously according to the form of intervention.
