1,241,189. Pantographs. BRITISH RAILWAYS BOARD. 11 Nov., 1969 [12 Nov., 1968], No. 55200/69. Divided out of 1,241,188. Heading B7L. A pantograph comprises a head adapted to be mounted on a rail vehicle by means of spring rods 41, 42 whose flexibility increases progressively from the point of attachment to the vehicle to the point of attachment to the head. The rods 41, 42 may be formed from a single length of tube which is increasingly flattened to form the flexible rods, but which is undeformed where it forms a torsion tube crossmember 43. In a modification, Fig. 2, the head is supported by tapered rods 27-32 arranged in pairs and in two planes, the head being connected to the member 35. The lower pair of rods 31, 32 may be omitted, and then the upper two pairs connected by a torsion tube. The head may comprise two metal contact strips 20, 21 spaced apart longitudinally of a contact wire by connectors 23a-23d, and cantilevered to the torsion tube about an axis 24 by rod or leaf springs 44. The contact strips are thicker in their middle portions and are provided with widthwise slits 45 according to flexibility. |
