PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for measuring a bolt axial force capable of extremely simply and accurately determining the axial force of a fastening bolt. SOLUTION: An ultrasonic wave is impressed in the axial direction on a bolt applied with the axial force. When determining a displacement y and the axial force F on the basis of changes of propagation time before and after applying the axial force, the displacement y of the bolt in respect to a random axial force can be determined by a quadratic function of the axial force F, y=BF+CF2 (B and C are inherent coefficients of the bolt).
