PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate assembly of a telescopic shaft having a pair of shafts interconnected by serrations and prevent a backlash in the shaft. SOLUTION: The male serration 5 is axially divided into male serrations 5a and 5b between which an axially tapered portion 8 is provided. An anti- backlash member 9 is provided which is made of an elastic body having a pair of legs 10 and 11 fitted around the axially tapered portion 8 and a shell 12 interconnecting the legs 10 and 11. The middle section 15 of the shell 12 rises and elastically presses the female serration. A pair of arm pieces 13 and 14 are provided which extend from the middle section 15 of the shell 12 to both circumferential sides of the axially tapered portion 8. The addition of the arm pieces 13 and 14 having a high degree of freedom of deformation to elastically press the female serration enables the area of contact with the female serration to be secured without the need to substantially increase spring load. The shaft is easy to install and has a high anti-backlash effect.
