Impact resistant transparent laminates are made by subjecting on the absence of an adhesive at least six superimposed plies of biaxially oriented films each film being formed of the same crystalline poly olefin or copolymer of two or more olefins, to a pressure of 50-2000 p.s.i.g. at a temperature below the crystalline melting point of the polymer. Specified crystalline polymers are high density polythene, stereoregular polypropylene, poly(1 - bentene), poly- (4 - methyl - 1 - pentene) and copolymers of ethylene and propylene. Stabilizers, antioxidants, plasticizers, pigments, dyes and bridging agents such as sulphonazides and azidoformates may be incorporated in the polymer.</p> |
