PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader, with which a reading range on both the sides of a document can be expanded and reading processing can be efficiently performed in a short time. SOLUTION: On a conveyer route 40 of the reader, plural drive rollers 46 and 47 for conveying a document 36 are located at an interval. In the middle of the conveyer route, a reduced image forming type sensor unit 55 for optically reading image information on the surface of the document and a contact type sensor unit 56 for optically reading image information on the back of the document are located. The contact type sensor unit is deviated in the conveying direction of the document rather than reduced image forming type sensor unit. The reduced image forming type sensor unit and the contact type sensor unit are located between a pair of adjacent drive rollers and between these two sensor units, a light shielding member 74 for shielding light is installed.
