PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve fuel consumption by assisting engine power by an electric motor in an intermediate load region, in an internal combustion engine switching stratified charge combustion and uniform combustion in accordance with a load condition. SOLUTION: A cylinder injection engine 1 has injection valves 7a to 7d directly injecting fuel in a combustion chamber 2. Power of the engine 1 is assisted according to necessity by an electric motor 17. In an electronic control unit (ECU) 41, in the case where a load condition of the engine 1 is in a low load region, in order to obtain necessary power in accordance with the load condition, the injection valves 7a to 7d are controlled, so as to execute stratified charge combustion. In the ECU41, in the case where the load condition is in a high load region, in order to obtain necessary power in accordance with the load condition, the injection valves 7a to 7d are controlled, so as to execute uniform combustion. Further, in the ECU41, in the case where the load condition is in an intermediate load region, in order to obtain necessary power in accordance with the load condition, the electric motor 17 is controlled. Accordingly, only by the amount using the electric motor 17 in the intermediate load region, fuel consumption of the engine 1 is decreased. |
