PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge current monitoring device for the lightning arrester which can detect maximum value of a new discharge current ever when a peak holding circuit is reset. SOLUTION: An output of a current transformer 2 for detecting discharging current of a lightning arrester 1 is converted to digital from analog by A/D conversion circuit 13, and converted value of digital and a threshold value set by a threshold value setting switch 22 is compared by a computer 23. As a result, if the value of digital is larger than the threshold value, the digital value of time t1 is written on a memory 24 by a controlling circuit 25. The digital value stored in the memory 24 is called by a microprocessor 14 to detect peak value and polarity of discharging current of a lighting arresting device1.
