PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control rod whose weight is reduced while its reliability is maintained. SOLUTION: A neutron absorption part is constituted of an irradiation growth material 1 and a hafnium material 2. On the basis of the reduction rate (a) of the hafnium material and the growth rate (b) of the irradiation growth material due to irradiation, the ratio of the length of the irradiation growth material in the neutron absorption part is set at a/(a+b).
