[Class 80 (ii).] According to the parent Specification, variable-speed gearing for a vehicle is operated automatically by engine suction at 31, Fig. 2, through a " main control lever 14 " which through an electrical relay and cams effects the speed-changing and engine clutch operation. In this invention, the action on the lever 14 is regulated by a roller 97 movable between one lever, in this case the lever 14, and another lever 95 so that the leverage of one lever decreases as that of the other increases. The roller 97 is moved by an auxiliary pressure device, in the arrangement shown, further engine suction at 31a. The main suction diaphragm 31 acts on the lever 95 through a linkage comprising a stabilizer 18. Astabilizing plunger 18 is pressed into a notch 17 by a spring 35 and part 34 of the linkage. A modification is described comprising two of these oppositely-directed lever pairs in which the auxiliary pressure device includes water from the engine cooling system. In this modification, the stabilizer is a lever carrying two bowls which come into action alternatively at two different leverages, and regulation is imposed by a multiple camshaft. The auxiliary pressure fluid may be derived from the lubricating system. A device comprising a sliding multiple cam plate is described operated by the relay electric motor. In Fig. 4 is shown an arrangement in which multiple cam grooves are formed in a drum 317 which encircles the change gearing 319 and is angularly displaced to effect changes by the relay motor 324.</p>
