<p>Homogeneous catalyst for the carboxylation of olefins or acetylenes to the corresponding carboxylic acid (ester derivs. comprises a polynuclear organic complex contng. Pd and another metal of group IVA, VA or IIIB in a highly oxidised state. The carboxylation reation is at 45-150 degreec, and 25-300 atmospheres, and the catalyst is used in amounts of 0.2-3x10-3 M. No oxygen is present but an acide medium is used. The other metal is Fe, Al, Ti, zr or Nb (halides) and is present in an atomic ratio to Pd (halide) of 1-30:1, pref. 1:1 products may be used as monomers. Unduly high pressures are not required.</p> |
