The distance, size and temperature measurement device evaluates the signals output by a single detector, e.g. a pyroelectric infrared sensor, whose relative spatial position with respect to a heat source is changed linearly or rotationally along or about an axis. An Independent claim is also included for a method in measuring the distance, size, and temperature of a heat source.
