PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a thick-walled sheet molding compound(SMC) enhanced in the infiltration properties of a resin compound to a fiber reinforcing material. SOLUTION: In a method of manufacturing SMC by applying a resin compound to a thermoplastic film by an applicator such as a doctor blade or the like while cutting reinforcing fibers by a chopper and applying the cut reinforcing fibers to the resin compound applied to the thermoplastic film to impregnate them with the resin compound by an impregnation device, a plurality of polymerizable vinyl monomer applicators and a plurality of reinforcing fiber choppers are provided as essential devices.
