PURPOSE: A discharge gas of a plasma display panel is provided which is able to produce ultraviolet rays having a wavelength longer than the wavelength of conventional ultraviolet rays to improve the energy efficiency of fluorescent material. CONSTITUTION: A mixed gas for discharging of a plasma display panel is composed in such a manner that I2 gas is added to an inert gas composition including Xe in a predetermined ratio. The pressure of the mixed gas is 300 to 500Torr. The inert gas composition includes Ne gas. The inert gas composition may contain Ar gas. The mixture ratio of the I2 gas is less than 10% of the pressure ratio of the entire mixed gas. The I2 gas emits ultraviolet rays having a longer wavelength than Xe. |
