SET-TOP BOX HAVING WAKE-UP FUNCTION BY TELEPHONE

PURPOSE: A set-top box having a wake-up function by a telephone is provided to make a reservation and record a desired video on demand by making a phone call to home (a set-top box installed place) easily and freely with only a reservation code of the video on demand obtained through an Internet Service Provider and inputting simply a password code and a reservation code even though a main function of a set-top box is in an OFF state. CONSTITUTION: A line interface(202) selectively transmits a phone signal of a phone line(201) received from a POTS filter to a DTMF controller(203) under the control of an auxiliary microcontroller function unit(207). The DTMF(Dual Tone Multi Frequency) controller(203) receives the phone signal from the line interface(202), generates a wake-up signal and recognizes a DTMF key input received from an external source. A wake-up circuit(206) creates a signal to wake up the auxiliary microcontroller function unit(207) with the phone signal of the DTMF controller(203). The auxiliary microcontroller function unit(207) is waken up by a wake-up signal of the wake-up circuit(206), recognizes a phone call incoming from an external source, and determines a determining code of a password code and a reservation code received from the DTMF controller(203) to drive a relay exciting coil unit(215). The relay exciting coil unit(215) drives an exciting coil(257) of a relay and turns on a driving terminal(216) of the relay upon receipt of a signal of an output 'A' of the auxiliary microcontroller function unit(207), to supply an AC power(208) to a set-top box main power supply unit(209). A set-top box wake-up power supply unit(218) supplies power constantly. A key input unit(212) participates in turning on or off of the set-top box, automatic responding and other function setting. A set-top box main microcontroller function unit(210) controls a general function of the set-top box(204) and performs a function of transmitting a reservation data including an Internet protocol(IP) through a LAN card(213) and xDSL modem connection signal line(214) to an ISP provider on the basis of the reservation code read from the auxiliary microcontroller function unit(207) performing a reservation function. The set-top box main power supply unit(209) is supplied with the AC power(208) according to the driving of the relay driving terminals(215,216) only when the set-top box main function unit is operated.
