PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quicken maintenance and exposing processing by correcting uneven exposure due to variation in the intensity of light emitted from an optical modulation element based on an easy calculation. SOLUTION: Exposure of a print sheet 11 with a lamp 5 is interrupted by means of a mechanical shutter 10 turning at an appropriate timing during a transient response interval before the intensity of light emitted from a liquid crystal shutter 9 is settled at a converging value. Consequently, a liquid crystal controller 12 always controls the timing for stopping optical modulation at each pixel part of the liquid crystal shutter 9 under a state where the intensity of light emitted from all pixel parts of the liquid crystal shutter 9 is settled at a substantially constant level.
