PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gel with a great safety which has a high gel strength in spite of having a pH of an alkalinity, causes no syneresis liquid and can be easily prepared and which is usable as medical goods such as external medical preparations (for example, a base for sticking agents), cosmetic goods such as pack agents, sticky agents for living bodies, electrodes for living bodies, wound-protecting agents and sanitary pads and also as daily goods such as aromatics and sticky adhesives. SOLUTION: The alkaline hydrous gel comprises a crosslinked material from 0.5-60 pts. by mass of an N-vinylacetamide copolymer (component A) formed from the main components of an N-vinylacetamide and a polymerizable monomer having a COOM group (wherein, M is a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal or an ammonium group) and 0.01-20 pts. by mass of a crosslinker (component B) to react and crosslink with the COOM group in A component and also 94.49-20 pts. by mass of water (component C), (the sum total of components A, B and C is 100 pts. by mass) and has a pH of 7.0-10.5.
