PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface layer of reduction roll which has a texture consisting of substantially evenly distributed carbonized matter and substance containing scarcely both segregations looking like annual growth ring and crude and large dendrites. SOLUTION: A centrifugal foundry process forms the surface layer that consists of casting iron that contains C of 1.0-4.0 wt.% at least and both Mo and/or W 1.0-1.6 wt.% in the total amount. Metal texture of the surface layer that faces materials being rolled contains less than 4 mm length of the dendrite. The carbon distributes substantially evenly in the texture, i.e., when C is measured with EPMA(X-ray electron probe micro-analyzer), its dispersion S1 is less than 12%. If C is evaluated by its area percentage, its dispersion S2 is less than 20%. When hardness of C is evaluated, the dispersion S3 is less than 10%.
