PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for drying sludge which is capable of efficiently drying the sludge and forming a hygienic final product without generating gases, such as gaseous ammonia, emitting malodors. SOLUTION: A metal salt is added to the sludge to regulate its pH to 6.0 to 6.8 as a pretreatment for drying and thereafter, the sludge is dried, by which the generation of the gases, such as the gaseous ammonia, emitting the malodors is prevented, the execution of efficient drying is made possible and the sludge may be made into the hygienic final product.
