<p>In order to reduce power consumption in halftone display, each of a plurality of scanning lines is selected for one horizontal scanning period, each horizontal scanning period is divided into first and second half periods, and a selection voltage is applied for one half period. In case of halftone display, the selection voltage is applied for a second half period to the odd scanning lines and applied for a first half period to the even scanning lines. To pixels located along the selected scanning line, a drive voltage and a non-drive voltage are applied, respectively, for a part of a period, when the selection voltage is applied, corresponding to the gradation, and for the remaining part thereof through a relevant data line. Since only two voltage swintchings for one horizontal scanning period 1H are needed for a data signal Xi for halftone display, power consumption required for voltage switching is reduced.</p> |
