The invention relates to a machine tool or a handling device comprising a machine frame and at least one machine unit that can be moved to-and-fro on said frame and along an axis of motion and can be driven by a linear motor consisting of at least one primary component which is supplied with current and at least one passive secondary component. The aim of the innovation is to simplify construction, especially on the moveable machine unit. The linear motor is configured as a long stator-linear motor whose entire length of the primary component/s that is/are arranged in a level is greater than the entire length of the allocated secondary component/s.
