An assembly feeds bulk solids e.g. green malt into a grain drying kiln (1). The feed assembly has a central supporting column (3) on top of which is a concentric open-topped (7) funnel (4) discharging sideways to a chute (5). The funnel and chute rotate in azimuth about the column. The chute spreads the incoming malt over the floor of a drying kiln. The central column (3) is enclosed and/or made of solid material. The funnel may extend telescopically sideways increasing the spreading range.
