A cuff- (or collar) seal 4 for a dry diving suit of polyurethane-coated fabric, is manufactured by dipping a former 1 into a bath 2 of rubber latex containing polyurethane and a di-iso-octyl phthalate plasticiser. Following drying and stripping from the former 1, the cuff 4 is attached to a sleeve 5 of the suit in an overlapping joint, firstly by stitching 8 throughout the overlapping region 7 and then by bonding them together with polyurethane tape 9 wound over the join 6. Hot air to melt thermoplastic adhesive on the tape 9, is directed between the tape 9 and the join 6 as the tape 9 is wound over the join 6 and compressed onto it within the nip between rollers. |
