1349955 Skin-bleaching compositions BRISTOL-MYERS CO 23 June 1971 [24 June 1970] 29499/71 Heading A5B Skin-bleaching compositions for external application comprise a bleaching agent consisting of hydroquinone or an ether thereof, a skin irritant-exfoliating agent, an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid and a pharmaceutically-cosmetically acceptable vehicle. The bleaching agent may be hydroquinone or hydroquinone monomethyl, monoethyl or monobenzyl ether; the corticosteroid may be hydrocortisone, cortisone, prednisolone, prednisone, dexamethasone, betamethasone, fluocinolone acetonide, triamicinolone, fluocinolone, triamcinolone acetonide, methyl prednisolone or fluorometholone, or esters thereof when chemically possible; and the skin irritant exfoliating agent may be an unsaturated fatty acid e.g. linoleic or linolenic acid, a long chain fatty acid ester or salt e.g. sodium lauryl sulphate, oleic acid, arachidonic acid, a polyoxyethylene lauryl or myristyl ether, a C 5-16 alkylamine e.g. n-acetylamine, dioctyl sodium sulpho succinate, salicylic acid, benzoic acid or preferably retinoic acid. The compositions may be in the form of lotions or creams and may also contain fragrances, pigments, preservatives stabilizers and / or antioxidants. |
