PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drain rain water, etc., entering from the peripheral part of a garbage inlet by a means of simple structure and to prevent the intrusion of excess water into an agitation/decomposition tank. SOLUTION: In a garbage treatment apparatus 1, a garbage treating material containing microorganisms is placed in the agitation/decomposition tank 4 having the garbage inlet 2, and garbage mixed with the material is agitated to be decomposed by fermentation, an outward-projecting fringe part 5 is formed in the fringe part 2a of the inlet 2.
