PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for planting fungus to a bed log capable of accurately planting a fungus into a hole of the bed log at a desired density and provide an apparatus therefor. SOLUTION: Fungus-carrier powder 30 such as sawdust containing the fungus of Shiitake mushroom, etc., is pressed into a hole of a bed log 1 to be planted with the powder 30 with the objective apparatus 8 for planting fungus to a bed log. The planting apparatus 8 is provided with a holding part 32 to hold the fungus-carrier powder 30, a stirring blade 46 to stir the fungus-carrier powder 30 in the holding part 32, a pushing rod 34 to press the fungus-carrier powder 30 toward the hole of the bed log 1 and a compacting device 36 positioned between the bed log 1 and the tip end of the pushing rod 34 and compacting the powder 30 in the holding part 32 to an extent. The compacting device 36 is provided with a pressing part 38 having a nearly circular end face 38a encircling the space to pass the pushing rod 34 and a receiving part 40 having a nearly circular end face 40a at a side opposite to the pressing part 38.
