PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device which is suitable for HMD where a compact display optical system is realized, correction of distortion and various aberrations is satisfactory and bright wide view angle can be obtained. SOLUTION: A display means for displaying image information and an optical means guiding light from the display means to an eyeball are installed. The optical means has a prism body, comprising not less than three faces where reflection forces differ by an azimuth angle and having a positive refraction force. In a face nearest the display means of the prism body, a local curvature radius area having different refraction force by the azimuth angle and positive refraction force on a local bus cross section is sandwiched by local curvature radius areas having a negative refraction force.
