PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cryogenic container for preserving gas phase having simple and effective design in which the risk of contamination is reduced because a product has no risk of touching liquid nitrogen and safety is ensured in the control of nitrogen level at low manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: The container designed to bring about gas phase preservation comprises an outer shell in which an inner receptacle for containing a product being preserved, and an intermediate receptacle surrounding the central receptacle are disposed. The intermediate receptacle defines along with the central receptacle a first closed volume for forming a liquid nitrogen reservoir around the central receptacle, and defines along with the outer shell a second closed volume imparted with super heat insulation by vacuum. The container is applicable to gas phase preservation of a biological product.
