PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device and a warning output method that can effectively utilize an ND filter. SOLUTION: Warning information to urge a user to insert or withdraw an ND filter 102 generated from an ND warning discrimination circuit 111 is given directly to display device 113, and warning information to urge a user to reset an aperture or a shutter speed in an exposure control mode with aperture priority or shutter speed priority produced from an Av/Tv warning discrimination circuit 12 is given to the display device 113 via a warning information changeover switch SW 118. The warning information changeover switch SW 118 is kept OFF with a control signal generated from the ND warning discrimination circuit 111 at the same time when the ND warning discrimination circuit 111 generates the warning information and inhibits the warning information from the Av/Tv warning discrimination circuit 112 to be outputted to the display device 113.
