PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem of a conventional method for setting read reference position to decide a position of an image on recording paper because the setting has been made while the image is actually formed resulting in causing inefficiency. SOLUTION: The image reader reads an image of document butt member to acquire image data as to the document butt member, and sets a read reference position on the basis of the image data, especially a read reference position in the subscanning direction.
