WAVEGUIDE FOR TRANSMITTING RF ENERGY VIA RF BARRIER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the constitution of an item to be identified electronically and a method related to the constitution. SOLUTION: An item spacer includes a waveguide 28.1 for a radio frequency signal and a crate 16.1 or a pallet. When an item 16.1 or 16.9 in an array is separated, a signal from an interrogator 12 in an RF electronic identification system 10 is guided to a transponder 14.1 or 14.9 arranged on an item in the system 10 via the waveguide. A response signal from the transponder is guided similarly in the reverse direction to read out the transponder. The spacer, constitution and method can reduce the problems brought about by an RF barrier in a system in the conventional technology.
