PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device by which a time symbol around a circular dial can be read out at night with reference to the circular dial in a small apparatus equipped with an automatic power supply. SOLUTION: In a peripheral lighting device for the scale of a dial 11 in a small apparatus, a case 1 with a built-in movement 14 which drives at least one out of pointers 12a, 12b, 12c with reference to the scale is contained, a power supply 6 which can supply a pulse voltage is contained, an electronic circuit 15 is contained, and the case is covered with a crystal 4 which is extended to the side of the dial by a ring-shaped recessed part forming a flange 17. In the peripheral lighting device, a ring-shaped recessed part 19 is formed at the inside of a base part 18 in order to receive an electronic light-emitting ring 20 formed of a belt piece which comprises an edge part 21 and a connecting lug 22 extended by exceeding the base part 18 of the flange 17, and a ring 30 composed of a semitransparent plastic material is pressed to the ring-shaped recessed part 19 in such a way that the electronic light-emitting ring 20 is held by the low part of the ring.
