PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor optical waveguide functional element which is also easily manufactured while preventing the reduction of characteristics and the disturbance of the field of exit light caused by reflected light. SOLUTION: An incident side optical waveguide 12 and an exit side optical waveguide 13 are provided in an element main body 11 so that the exit end surface of the incident side optical waveguide 12 faces the incident end surface of the exit side optical waveguide 13 and also a window area 14 is provided between the exit end surface of the incident side optical waveguide 12 and the incident end surface of the exit side optical waveguide 13.
