PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a piezoelectric resonator that can easily be manufactured ands can sufficiently and highly precisely dam a fundamental wave of thickness longitudinal vibration and effectively utilize the resonance characteristic based on the third harmonic. SOLUTION: In the piezoelectric resonator, first and second excitation electrodes 3, 6 are formed to both principal planes of a piezoelectric substrate 2, lead electrode 4, 7 and terminal electrodes 5, 8 are respectively formed in the 1st and 2nd excitation electrodes 3, 6, and the terminal electrodes 5, 8 are formed at the area that reaches >=10% of an area equivalent to a normal line distance of 1.2d-2d from an outer circumferential edge of the excitation electrodes 3, 6.
