PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for stabilizing carrying of a magnetic tape which is effective to accurately position the magnetic tape as a working object to the focus position of a working laser beam when making the laser beam or the like incident on a back layer of the magnetic tape to form a recessed part (groove) in the back layer of this tape. SOLUTION: The device for stabilizing carrying is used to carry the magnetic tape in the lengthwise direction and is provided with a tape position detection means which detects the position in the vertical direction of the magnetic tape, and a tape position correction means which corrects the position in the vertical direction of the magnetic tape on the basis of the detection result.
