PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat surface grinding machine which is capable of processing an end surface of a workpiece, which is also capable of performing grinding work, and which can be manufactured at a low cost. SOLUTION: This grinding machine comprises a bed 1, a cross rail 3 provided above the bed 1, a saddle 4 guided by the cross rail 3 to move forward and backward, a slide base 5 guided by the saddle 4 to move up and down, a table 2 movable right and left on the bed 1 having a workpiece WP thereon, a tool head 10 installed on the slide base 5 and provided with a vertical drive shaft 13 and a drive motor 12, a rotary indexing mechanism 20 installed on a lower end of the tool head 10, an angle head 30 connected to the tool head 10 and engaged with the drive shaft 13 through the rotary indexing mechanism 20 and provided with a horizontal main shaft 40 on which a tool 45 is installed at a tip, and a cutting mechanism 50 to axially move the main shaft 40.
