PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing apparatus in which perfect printing is hardly interrupted by a capacity shortage of a semiconductor memory and can be realized inexpensively. SOLUTION: In the printing apparatus, when a front face intermediate code and a rear face intermediate code cannot be generated on a RAM (8103; YES), front face image data corresponding to the front face intermediate code is generated and stored in an HDD (S111). Then, the rear face intermediate code is stored to a RAM with the use of also a storage region where the front face intermediate code has been stored till then (S112 and S113). After a band image corresponding to the rear face intermediate code is supplied to a printing engine, rear face image data prepared in the HDD is supplied via the RAM to the printing engine (steps S115-S118).
