PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a safe food capable of activating the cutaneous cells and also of increasing collagen synthetic ability and therefore useful for the skin. SOLUTION: The subject food material is an insoluble substance obtained by decomposing the shell meat of Pinctada martensii with a proteolytic enzyme followed by addition of ethanol so as to result in the ethanol concentration at 50-80 wt.% The second objective food is such one as to be formulated with this food material, or formulated with the insoluble substance described above and ascorbic acid or a derivative thereof.
