Sensors (2) are exposed to the chemicals at an elevated temperature over a given period of time, and then they are allowed to cool and the spectrum pattern for the noise fluctuations is evaluated at this lower temperature. Obtaining composition information from chemical environments comprises exposing at least one sensor to the chemicals present in the environment, then measuring noise fluctuations for a pre-determined sensor property, the fluctuations being caused by the chemicals in the environment, and then determining an output density spectrum for the fluctuations and evaluating the spectrum pattern in order to determine the chemical components. The sensors are exposed to chemicals at an elevated temperature over a given period of time, and then they are allowed to cool and the spectrum pattern is evaluated at this lower temperature. An Independent claim is also included for a chemical nose (1) with at least one chemical sensor, a heating device (4) coupled to the sensors, a switch (6) for supplying power to the sensors, and connections (22, 24) for a noise fluctuation analysis device. |
