PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart a long-time memory and threshold characteristics of applied voltage and to carry out good X-Y matrix driving in a display device in which charged particles in a dispersion system prepared by dispersing the charged particles in an insulating liquid are transferred by applying voltage to the dispersion system to carry out display. SOLUTION: Fixing layers 10, 11 comprising an ionic polymer charged to polarity reverse to that of charged particles 2 are formed on separate electrodes 8, 9 for applying voltage to a dispersion system 3 and the charged particles 2 are held on the surfaces of the fixing layers 10, 11 by charges on the surfaces of the fixing layers without applying voltage.
