PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent video reproduction device that can prevent adverse effect on a human body in advance on the occurrence of a flickered video image. SOLUTION: The video signal reproduction device is provided with an output amplifier 13 that amplifies a received video signal and outputs the amplified signal, a video encoder section 12 that extracts a luminance component of the video signal, an APL detection section 14 that averages the luminance component in prescribed timing to generate an APL signal, and a control section 15 that compares the level of the APL signal with a prescribed upper limit level and with a prescribed lower limit level, counts the number of times when the level of the APL signal is deviated from a range between the upper limit level and the lower limit level in a prescribed time and controls the gain of an output amplifier 13 decreasingly when the count result exceeds a prescribed value.
