The method for storing grass or hay lying in swathes comprises gathering the cut material using the machine described in EP611278 to press it into bales and wrap it in an airtight wrapping. The machine is tractor-drawn and comprises two rollers (1, 2) mounted on axles at right angles to the direction of motion and a third roller (10) whose axle is parallel to the direction of motion which presses the material into the nip of the other two.
