A procedure for the calculation and indication of the remaining run-time of a material unrolled with a constant speed from a dispenser spool, especially cinema film material, has the following steps: - use of a dispenser spool that delivers n pulses per revolution via a sensor; - measurement of the time for one revolution or partial revolution of the dispenser spool that is determined by the number of pulses delivered by the sensor (n per revolution); - calculation of the current outer periphery of the dispenser spool by multiplication of the transport speed by the measured time; - determination of the area enclosed by this outer periphery; - calculation of the annular area corresponding to the rolled-up material by subtraction of the core area from the enclosed area; - calculation of the remaining length by division of the annular area by the material thickness; and - derivation of the remaining run-time according to division of the remaining length by the transport speed.
