An energy converter for the irreversible conversion of kinetic energy into heat energy usually consists of a cast workpiece. According to the invention, an intermetallic compound based on Fe Al with a proportion of Al of between 1 wt. % and 6 wt. % and a proportion of C of >/= 1 wt. % is used as the casting material so that the energy converter is more economical to produce.
