PURPOSE: A decoding method of a video factor in a video decoder is provided to simplify the structure and operation of a system by removing backward signals and controlling only forward signals of control signals between adjacent blocks. CONSTITUTION: First, DC or the first factor is processed in case of block start, and then a factor counter is adjusted as "0". Then, the factor counter is incremented by 1 whenever AC factor is processed, it is decided whether the value of the factor counter is 64 by checking the counter if the data processing of the block is completed. Next, the next block processing routine is performed if 64, the value of the factor counter is incremented until the value arrives at 64 if not 64. Then, the pair of run/level is generated from a previously set AC factor table in accordance with bit streambit signals and selector signals if all the steps are completed.
