METHOD OF MANUFACTURING COMPOSITE TAPE FORMED FROM REINFORCING FIBER AND THERMOPLASTIC ORGANIC MATERIAL FIBER

PURPOSE: A method of manufacturing composite tape is provided to produce the composite tape easily and economically by collecting a large number of continous yarns to solidify them. CONSTITUTION: Yarns(11) based on a thermoplastic resin and reinforcing fibers are parallelly drawn in to be formed into a sheet(12) which is, in turn, introduced into a certain zone to be heated to temperature at least reaching the melting point of the thermoplastic resin without reaching the softening temperature of the reinforcing fibers and the heated sheet to be passed through a rotary impregnation apparatus(80) to uniformly distribute the molten thermoplastic resin so as to perfectly impregnate the reinforcing fibers with the thermoplastic resin. The sheet is guided to a shaping and centering apparatus(100) to collect the yarns so as to bring them into contact with each other and to obtain a tape(13) formed by the generation of malleability in a lateral direction. The tape is cooled to coagulate the thermoplastic resin to solidify the yarns and the dimensional characteristics and appearance of the tape are set so as to supply a composite tape(10).
