PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer and a method for correcting a pressed contact pressure of a thermal head whereby a variation of the pressed contact pressure of the thermal head to a platen due to waving, deflection or the like of the platen can be properly corrected to obtain a constant pressed contact pressure. SOLUTION: A thermal head 4 is supported by a supporting member 5 to be detachable to a platen 14. The supporting member 5 has a head return spring 6 for elastically urging the thermal head 4 in a direction to separate the thermal head from the platen 14. A pressing member 8 can press the supporting member 5 towards the platen 14 against an urging force of the head return spring 6. The pressing member 8 has a pressure contact pin to be elastically urged to the supporting member 5 by a pressure contact spring (not shown). A measuring means comprises two, i.e., a first and a second measuring means 15 and 7. The first measuring means 15 is arranged to a position out of a printing range E of the platen 14 and the second measuring means 7 is set to the supporting member 5 at a position where the pressure contact pin 8a of the pressing member 8 comes in pressed contact with the supporting member.
